Harold's Doughnuts, a donut shop in Columbia, Missouri, is known for their creative donuts. J2150's team went to the shop and got insight on how to make one of their most popular donuts.
Narration 1: Leila Rice, an employee at Harold’s doughnuts, makes many different types of donuts throughout the workday.
Leila 1: “My favorite donut that we make would have to be our craft sprinkle.”
Narration 2: She loves the process of how to make a Harold’s craft sprinkle donut.
Leila 2: “It’s very vanilla. We start with just our yeast-raised ring which is just kind of like the plain donut. It’s like a blank canvas, if you will.”
Narration 3: Rice likes the craft spring donut because of the frosting.
Leila 3: “We put our vanilla glaze on top of it, which I’m just a fan of the classics, I love vanilla.”
Narration 4: The craft sprinkle donut will never look the same because of all of the different color combinations they can make.
Leila 4: “Since we make all of our sprinkles by hand, I think that’s what kind of makes it a fun donut. That’s what makes it my favorite one. We make icing so we can choose any color that we want, any color scheme.”
Narration 5: All of the sprinkles on the donuts in Harold’s are hand-made!
Leila 5: “We pipe it out into straight lines on parchment paper and then let it dry overnight, and then crunch it all up and that’s how the sprinkles are made.”
Narration 6: The employees at Harold’s love making sprinkles.
Leila 6: “That’s just kind of one of the most fun processes that we do, and it just makes for a really fun, colorful, and sweet donut.”

Geni 1: “I love that they’re really creative and not afraid to think outside of the doughnut box!”
